The Cursed Lake at the Heart of Death, Bigfoot, and UFO Sightings

The remnants of a Pleistocene lake of great proportions called Lake Lahontan, still remain today. The last vestige of the supposed site of the Paiutes battle with the redhaired giants is called Pyramid Lake in Nevada.

The Paiutes have legends about the lake and its mineral deposited sandstone formations. They also have a legend about the "water babies." They are said to be babies born with deformities and flaws that were thrown into the water by the tribe in the long-ago history. They are said to be heard crying out and every year, at least one fisherman or more go missing. And, there might be something to this legend. Let's have a look at just some missing/drowned people -

Missing/Drowned People

(LINK) January 2016, two fishermen on the lake went missing and search was finally called off for the two who went out on an aluminum fishing boat with a small outboard motor.

(LINK) November 2014, a man drowned and his two sons went missing after capsizing on the lake. The search was called off. No reason for capsizing found.

(LINKCrews pulled three victims ages 10, 21 and 24 from the lake. Family members originally called 911 after a two-year-old started drowning. Rescuers arrived and took the child to the hospital. It was then family members realized three others were missing.
Search and rescue divers eventually pulled the three victims from the water. But all three died at the scene.

Bigfoot Sightings

Missing people for centuries aside, the area also is known for tall hairy strangers, aka Bigfoot.

(LINK) Paiutes have a legend about the Pahi-zoho - My relatives have told me stories of the encounters that the Paiute people had with the Big Foots or Sasquatch as they are sometimes called. In the Paiute language we have different names for them, one is Pahi-zoho. There were some with red hair, brown hair and black hair. The red headed ones were said to be the meanest...Just before John C. Fremont had arrived there was a group of red headed Pahi-zohos or Big Foots living north of Pyramid Lake. This group had been carrying off the Paiutes’ children and eating them. They had been a scourge and a problem to the Paiute people around the area. So the Paiutes decide to get rid of them. The Paiutes found their cave and were hiding in the sagebrush, but the Pahi-zohos smelled the wind and got the scent of the Paiutes and the Pahi-zohos ran into the cave. The Paiutes swarmed the entrance of the cave and filled the entrance with sagebrush. They set the sagebrush on fire and heard the screams and grunts of the Pahi-zohos in the cave as they died. The fire was so intense it burned everything. After that the Paiutes did not have any problems with the red-head giant Big Foots or Sasqatches in the area.

(LINK)  During a canoe trip to the huge, desolate lake a week earlier, a Nevada Appeal team confirmed the lake's strangeness. After a day exploring the strange rocks, algae, hot springs and caves, we slept on the sand near the pyramid-shaped rock the lake is named for.

When we awoke the next morning our food cooler had vanished. We asked our camp neighbors but they denied any knowledge of the cooler's whereabouts - and we believe them, mostly.

Disappearing coolers are not the only mystery at Pyramid Lake. Once part of the Lake Lahontan inland sea, thousands of years of evaporation have left ancient water lines high on the surrounding peaks.

It isn't just missing people. Bigfoot are reported in the area too, as well as a huge number of UFO sightings.

UFOs

Lets go back in time into Native legends from the area to learn a bit more about why UFO's have always been in this area. The Paiutes have a legend of the Hav-Masuvs.

Upon questioning a knowledgeable elder, one learned much of this legend that strangely holds true today. We must really listen to "legends" as they are record keeping of people who know the land -

(LINK) "’You ask me if we heard of the great silver airships in the days before white-man brought his wagon trains into the land?’

"’Yes grandfather, I come seeking knowledge.’ (Among all tribes of my people, grandfather is the term of greatest respect which one man can pay to another.)

"’We, the Paiute Nation, have known of these ships for untold generations. We also believe that we know something of the people who fly them. They are called The Hav-musuvs.’

"’Who are the Hav-musuvs?’

"’They are a people of the Panamints, and they are as ancient as Tomesha itself.’

"He smiled a little at my confusion.

"’You do not understand? Of course not. You are not a Paiute. Then listen closely and I will lead you back along the trail of the dim past.

"’When the world was young, and this valley which is now dry, parched desert, was a lush, hidden harbor of a blue water- sea which stretched from half way up those mountains to the Gulf of California, it is said that the Hav-musuvs came here in huge rowing-ships. They found great caverns in the Panamints, and in them they built one of their cities. At that time California was the island which the Indians of that state told the Spanish it was, and which they marked so on their maps.

"’Living in their hidden city, the Hav-musuvs ruled the sea with their fast rowing-ships, trading with far-away peoples and bringing strange goods to the great quays said still to exist in the caverns.

"’Then as untold centuries rolled past, the climate began to change. The water in the lake went down until there was no longer a way to the sea. First the way was broken only by the southern mountains, over the tops of which goods could be carried. But as time went by, the water continued to shrink, until the day came when only a dry crust was all that remained of the great blue lake. Then the desert came, and the Fire-God began to walk across Tomesha, The Flaming-Land.

"’When the Hav-musuvs could no longer use their great rowing-ships, they began to think of other means to reach the world beyond. I suppose that is how it happened. We know that they began to use flying canoes. At first they were not large, these silvery ships with wings. They moved with a slight whirring sound, and a dipping movement, like an eagle.

"’The passing centuries brought other changes. Tribe after tribe swept across the land, fighting to possess it for awhile and passing like the storm of sand. In their mountain city still in the caverns, the Hav-musuvs dwelt in peace, far removed from the conflict. Sometimes they were seen in the distance, in their flying ships or riding on the snowy-white animals which took them from ledge to ledge up the cliffs. We have never seen these strange animals at any other place. To these people the passing centuries brought only larger and larger ships, moving always more silently.’

With this legend in mind, let's fast forward to today in the area of Pyramid Lake and UFO reports which are NUMEROUS!

metallic, self-propelled ball goes down the road approximately volleyball-sized, metalic ball travelling in oncoming traffic lane about 12 to 15 feet off of the ground. Speed seemed to be no more than 60-75 mph. Saw ball going around s-curve and proceeded past my driver side window. Front seat passengers had clear view. Rear passengers dozing. Ball had no visible means of locomotion or exhaust. It had a mirror polish and joints which showed black streaks behind them. Ball passed within 20 or so feet from my eyes.((NUFORC Note: One of two unrelated cases submitted by same witness. Witness has considerable technical training and experience. The witness indicates only the year in which the incident reportedly occurred, not a precise date. We will attempt to obtain an exact date. We have assigned a tentative date in 1994 until we receive a more accurate date. PD))

xtremely maneuverable pulsating white light over Pyramid Lake. Shoots straight up into the heavens after investigating(?) the lake over 2. This incident occurred in summer of 1968 at approx. 2 a.m. over Pyramid Lake, NV and lasted at least 20 mins. My older brother, his wife, two cousins, and myself had parked on the west side of the lake and were facing it(east)when I noticed a bright pulsating whitish/red light slowly descending out over the middle of the lake. It stopped just above the water and remained motionless for about a minute, then darted to the right extremely fast-so fast it left a "light" trail behind it. It then hovered again silently and we observed a pale white (light-beam?) emitting from under it, illuminating the water below. At this time my brother's wife began to panic and wanted to leave as did the others. I remained and we saw it maneuver all over the lake at different angles, with a somewhat jerky motion-again extremely fast. Finally it was still then suddenly shot straight up and out of sight, leaving a (vapor-trail?) behind it. It seemed to actually blend in with the stars, disappearing in an instant, veering northward as it went out of sight. The lake is very long and this thing could go from one end to the other, covering 10+ miles in the blink of an eye, doing right angle turns no aircraft I know of to this day can duplicate. It also seemed to change color after moving, going to a reddish blush and back to white slowly. This is the first time I've reported this incident to anyone. The others are reluctant to talk about it.((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. PD))

Extremely large noisy object seen at close range lights up mountainside and takes off. This is a second hand report based on conversations from 3 co-workers that I found credible due to the nature of the conversation. After work 2 brothers arrived near home at about 10:30 PST at Pyramid Lake Nevada. They saw 2 red lights descending towards the mountains. This seemed strange to them and as they observed more closely they described realizing that it was a single very large (aporox 1/4 mile perhaps longer in length) elongated object due to the fact that as it moved it blacked out the stars between the two red lights. These lights occasionally faded or brightened with changes in motion of the entire craft. They pulled over and got out of the car .. the object continued to move across the mountains occasionally descending behind and back up. A loud noise was associated with the movement of the craft. One brother described the sound like a shotgun blast that lasted the whole time. The other brother described it as like the sound of an earthquake rumble/shock sound but louder. No vibrations or shockwaves were felt by either brothers. At one point the object stopped over the mountain top about 2 miles from their position and lit the mountainside with a very intense yellow light this lasted at least 15 seconds the light allowed them to see the mountainside in exceptional detail, sagebrush, trees, rocks. At this time another friend of theirs returning home to the same area pulled over beside them and observed the following. The craft moved away accompanied by louder noise and up into the sky disappearing. The craft never seemed to turn in relation to their position so that only the one aspect of the object was ever presented to their viewing position. No protrusions were observed. The shape of any other sides were not evident. They have lived in the area for years and are used to military aircraft in the area, helicopters, jets and munition explosions. This was FAR different from anything they had ever seen. The next morning they observed two military jets lingering and flying around the area of the sighting.I had overheard my three co-workers talking among themselves and began to ask about their sighting. At no time during our conversation did I feel the story to be made up or exaggerated. They appeared genuinely astonished and awed by what they witnessed with no attempt to impress or gain notoriety. They are in their early twenties in age had not been drinking as they were just returning home from the end of their shift.I have related this to your website as I have never heard a more detailed or unusual eyewitness account that I felt to be credible and honestly given. I certainly cannot account for the information provided with any man-made object. I hope I have related the information of the conversations I had with them accurately.((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the incident is approximate. PD))

(LINK) (June 28, 2014 Pyramid Lake, NV)
We were driving home Friday night on the 5 freeway heading north from Los Angeles to Kern County. We saw 3 large UFO's starting at about 7:40 pm just before reaching Pyramid Lake on the 5 freeway heading north from Valencia towards the grapevine. The sky was clear and we saw something that at first appeared to me a cigar-shaped cloud. Next, we saw 2 more. They just hung there kind of at an angle to the ground, then the one closest to us rotated, there was a flowing fade in and out of lights and there seemed to be a light at one end. The approximate locations of the three were: #1 over the Angeles Forest west of the lake, #2 further northwest and #3 seemed to be over the 5 freeway going north away from the Bakersfield area. #1 moved to #2 as if by a jump. it was in the blink of an eye. then it rotated. I felt a little scared because no one driving seemed to notice or care and then #3 seemed to come closer to us. I think my wife was scared. I took these photos with a weak 50 mm lens after getting home. I was hurrying not to miss a photo chance and I drove up one of the nearby mountains I played around with the exposure to give a better view on the second photo. We lost sight of the UFOs because mountains blocked the view of 2 of the UFOs and the third one seemed to move behind a mountain as well.

It would seem that Pyramid Lake has always been the heart of some very scary legends of cannibalistic giants in the old days of Lake Lahontan and crying babies seeking revenge. It has been the site of many Bigfoot sightings and UFO sightings, as well as missing and drowned people. All of these things lead one to believe that it has more than met the criteria for most researchers as a "portal" type location.

It's almost ironic that other portal regions like Alaska's Triangle, Bermuda Triangle, Bennington Triangle and Bridgewater Triangle are all "triangles" and Pyramid Lake is known for its triangular structures. hmmmm
